After Louis Vuitton‘s Spring/Summer 2011 collaboration with New York celebrity tattoo artist Scott Campbell was premiered last June in Paris, the brand released a two-part video special in preparation for the line’s launch this season. Part one, seen below, takes you through a day or two in the life of Scott Campbell in his natural New York environment.*See part 2 now on Louis Vuitton’s YouTube channel.
Campbell, of Saved Tattoo in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, found the perfect way to transform his personal artistic techniques into a finely molded collection in conjunction with Marc Jacobs (one of his personal clients), who personally recruited him for the job. Using his talents as a tattoo artist, Campbell put his creative energy into developing a capsule collection consisting of custom laser-engraved bags, beautifully printed scarves, and striking ready-to-wear pieces.
In addition to putting his touch on the pieces in the collection, he did what he does best for the collection’s runway show. Campbell enjoyed the chance to “deface a bunch of pretty little models” by embellishing the famous Louis Vuitton graphic symbols (the quatrefoils, flowers, and LV monogram) as captivating runway motifs in temporary ink on several of the models in the show.
After much hype, the collection is finally available in Louis Vuitton retailers across the globe. For more information on the collaboration and where you can get your hands on these custom pieces, visit LouisVuitton.com.
