Last night was another major one in our country’s history. As if electing the first Black president wasn’t enough four years ago, we’ve given Barack Obama another four years to do his thing. I remember the day of the 2008 election like it was yesterday and I can still vividly feel all of the emotions, pride, and encouragement that stirred up within me after he won. Having been a new Morehouse freshman at the time, I don’t need to tell you that seeing a man with dark skin do something so amazing in this country was especially inspiring. However, now that I’m a little bit older, it feels different. It’s still special, but now I don’t have to look to Obama for proof that I can reach great heights. I just look inside myself; in a way that I never would have imagined back then.
I spent the night over at The Westway in the Village for their low-key, but super fun 2012 Election Watch Party. Hosted by Downtown 4 Democracy, the event was filled with balloons, great music, and awesome strangers who all came together to support our guy. Cheers to another four years!
