Earlier this summer, my sister told me about Elle Varner‘s mixtape, Conversational Lush, and months later, I finally checked it out. My verdict: it’s AWESOME (in a very unique way…). Maybe I should explain that last part a little. Elle Varner’s vocals are definitely one of a kind and the album features a variety of interesting tracks that kept me entertained from start to finish.
Personally, I love her voice, but some people have had mixed opinions after her performance on the BET Awards. I didn’t see it, so I can’t agree or disagree, but if you can get with her sound, the mixtape will take you on a rollercoaster of different songs like 32 Flavors and So Fly (which feature strong messages), songs like WTF (that have [no] message, but are still fun and cool), & songs that may speak directly to what you’re going through like Ghosts. Her debut album, Perfectly Imperfect, drops next Tuesday and I think the title really speaks to what kind of artist she is. It seems like she stays true to herself, follows her own rules of cool, and doesn’t mind having fun with her work. Click here to check out Conversational Lush for yourself right now and see if you want a “Refill” next week when the album drops.
[That corny little joke reminds me: the mixtape version of Refill is something you can't afford to miss. The sound clip and her raw vocals sound so good. Get it NOW.]
