What do penguins, skulls, Boston Terriers, and an urban state of mind have in common? They’ve all been used as the inspiration and subjects for the work of Canadian artist Jonathan Bergeron (a.k.a. Johnny Crap).
Looking like art that I’d expect to see in some cool, hipster loft in Williamsburg, his imagery plays with a number of tones from somber and creepy to comical and out there. He reuses familiar elements in a lot of his oil paintings, including his dog Iggy and his cranial-inspired protagonist, but he finds interesting and endless ways to keep them fresh.
