TNN Artist & Repertoire: SBTRKT

If you don’t like guys in masks, you can turn away now. SBTRKT (think Subtract, or you can call him by his government name: Aaron Jerome) is an amazingly skilled UK musician and producer that (in my opinion) brings an M.I.A. flavor to Mark Ronson-like quality production in a dubstep genre. He’s released singles, remixes, EPs, and most recently, his self-titled debut album, which dropped at the end of last month, all of which have helped his name spread like [wildfire] throughout the UK music world, and even in the U.S. thanks to a collaboration with Drake earlier this year. The artist, who’s always seen behind an exotic tribal mask, is obviously a little different from other artists to say the least. Part of the mystery behind his name and the masks lies in his desire to remain anonymous in such a public line of work, but you don’t need to see his face to see his talent. And since we’re talking about [seeing] his talent, I should probably mention that SBTRKT has a reputation for providing attention-grabbing visuals to go along with his singles. The video for his single Wildfire is crazy (in the best way). It keeps you engaged from the first second to the last. As a matter of fact, I’m going to stop talking and let you see for yourself. I would just post the video, but it looks so much better on SBTRKT’s official website. Trust me.

If you just can’t bare to leave [the no names] just yet, check out the original and remixed versions of [Wildfire] below. It’s an awesome track that features vocals from Yukimi Nagano, the lead singer of the electronic band Little Dragon. The remix features vocals from Drake. [press play]
