Talk Less, Do More! [Magna Carta Holy Grail]

Its amazing how you can receive a message that will make you understand how important a previous conversation, observation and/or recent experience really is. This past weekend I had a rather intense conversation with a good friend of mine about strategic planning and brand promotion. We discussed how important it is to do the work, be smart and NOT blast your every move via social media– which ultimately “dilutes” the overall WOW factor. When scrolling through the various options we have when it comes to social media and all you see is “Coming Soon”, “Late Nights, Early Mornings”, “This is about to be big!” etc, it makes one wonder how much time is going into the actual product and how much is just “hype”. Lets take a second to discuss “Magna Carta Holy Grail” presented by Jay-Z and sponsored by Samsung

During game 5 of the NBA finals on Sunday night between Miami Heat and the San Antonio Spurs, an ad aired featuring Jay-Z in a concept/studio session including Timberland, Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beatz and the legend Rick Rubin. This ad was for the July 4th release of Jay-z’s upcoming album entitled “Magna Carta Holy Grail“. The guy who “retired”, has been seen supporting his wife Beyonce on her World Tour and being a father to his daughter Blue Ivy just told the world that he has new music coming out but thats not even the half of it. Jay Z has collaborated with Samsung who has already purchased 1 million copies of the upcoming album to make available to Samsung Galaxy smartphone users 72 hours before the official release through a customized mobile app. Not only does this deal give Jay $5 million in sales (which may or may not be counted towards his total sales) before the album is released but its an advertising opportunity that was clever, on time and in return will help Samsung compete with Apple who recently announced the launch of iTunes Radio. Jay has obviously been working and not talking. He hasn’t released snippets and a ton of singles to get the people talking nor has he been raiding the blogs/social media with “promo posts”– he’s been in the lab creating and strategically plotting all while making money off a project that the world just found out about as of Sunday. Not only was I shocked about the recent news but it validated many of the things I spoke of in the conversation I had this past weekend. We can all learn a thing or two from this recent deal. Its really simple; Talk Less, Do More!
