After prepping for and delivering a huge strategy presentation at work, losing my iPhone (every millennial’s nightmare), and trying to process all of the crazy things that have been happening across the country… I ended a rather stressful week last Friday by hosting an intimate dinner at Row House Harlem, all sponsored by I.W. Harper Bourbon. Needless to say, a drink was well in order, and I couldn’t wait to raise my glass. Think of it as a toast to surviving all the chaos. Or maybe a toast to the start of summer, or even just good friends and a good night. No matter the occasion, the liquor of choice was whiskey.
We started off the evening with a quick introduction to our awesome hosts, I.W. Harper Bourbon. Ryan Ross, one of the country’s five masters of whiskey, gave us a lesson in Whiskey 101. Now, in all honesty, I was a little nervous about having my friends sit through a course on liquor history, but the discussion was actually super interesting. We were sort of stunned at everything that goes into the category and Ryan answered all of our questions without hesitation. According to him, we’re all certified whiskey nerds now. Ha!
When I got the restaurant options from the guys at the brand, it was a no-brainer. Row House’s menu had me drooling over my computer as I sent over my choice—and it definitely lived up to my expectations. I’m not sure, but we may have tasted about 80% of the tapas-style menu. Lobster croquettes, grilled steak bruschetta, that unforgettable mac and cheese… I can taste it all over again.
And if the food wasn’t enough, the drinks were perfect. We had signature Harper’s cocktails, in addition to a special tasting of both the classic and I.W. Harper 15 whiskeys (both are super smooth with a lot of flavor, but you’ve got to try the aged version). Makes me glad to know that the brand is finally back in the States.
After a few hours of great eating, wonderful drinks, and making some new friends at the restaurant, I think it’s safe to say that this was an awesome way to kick off the summer. I’ll be partnering up with I.W. Harper Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey throughout the season for their #LiveLikeMrHarper campaign, so stay tuned for more cool content in the months ahead. -J
FYI: I’m being compensated for my participation in this summer-long campaign, including this blog post, but as always, all the thoughts, opinions, experiences and imagery are my own. Make sure you guys [drink responsibly] and remember that whiskey’s intended for the 21+ crowd (wait your turn, like the rest of us, haha)!
