Let’s flashback to my sophomore year for a second — back to when I was a fledgling fashion fan still trying to figure out what I thought was cool and amazing in a world of so many different styles and aesthetics. I used to save a ton of photos of any- and everything that excited me (literally like hundreds of pictures a week) and I remember the night I was first introduced to Kris van Assche. I stumbled across an awesome photo of his FW09 sneakers and spent the next hour or two looking at the rest of the collection. I’ve loved his work ever since and he’s actually my favorite designer at the moment. Although more people probably recognize him for his work as Dior Homme’s artistic director, his eponymous label is definitely one you should know—especially if you’re all about building a good shoe game.
In Essential Homme’slatest edition of their editor’s picks, they spotlighted the new Wave sneakers from the KRISVANASSCHE Fall/Winter 2015 collection, and these kicks have me doing backflips. Bringing an awesome mix of throwback style to the current [luxe trainer] trend, they make me think of retro Reeboks updated with a NIKE Flyknit look (i.e. the knitted sock lining) and christened with van Assche’s spot on details—case in point: the thick soles, unique panels, and that sick lace architecture. I can’t wait for June to get here. I’m dying to see these bad boys in person. Check out the three confirmed colorways below. -JxR
