[the no names] is all about brands. Kyrell and I love them all–big and small (but particularly the smaller, rising brands). We’re currently hard at work on the treatment for a project for NativeDanger, an amazing menswear label I came across last year and they released the lookbook for their Fall/Winter 2014 collection earlier this week. The mainstream pop culture blogs, like Complex and HighSnobiety, are eating it up–as they should… It’s completely dope.
However, unlike the mainstream guys, we were actually [on set] for the shoot and got an early preview of the fall collection earlier this month during NYFW. If you haven’t heard of NativeDanger yet, they’re certainly worth checking out. Their view on futurism and other-worldly concepts, as well as the calculated details they implement into their designs, are all game-changing. I often see new designers create either really basic, but functional pieces or extravagant clothing that doesn’t make sense for the average individual, but the guys behind ND have crafted garments that give you the best of both worlds.
Skyler Javier, one of the masterminds behind the brand, walked us through the assortment and they have some awesome things coming later this year. Colored with themes of [mecha and anime], the collection incorporates robotic, futuristic aesthetics with a number of functional elements. Examples include heat pack inserts that react with insulated layers to provide double waves of warmth, “point of interest” overlapping details (seen below on that sick grey crewneck), and a ton of detachable garments, including a jacket with a bottom piece that pulls off to serve as a scarf and a snapback with a face mask to fight the harsh winter elements. There’s some truly amazing stuff coming from this team.
I think a lot of readers can tell when sites just got a press release and asked one or two extra questions in order to make a quick post, but I’m actually a HUGE fan of the brand and you’ll be seeing more from them on [tnn] in the coming months. I haven’t been impressed with a label like this in a long time and I’m so excited for the opportunity to work with them. Stay tuned for more to come from [tnn] x NativeDanger and check out some shots from the set of the shoot below. You can check out the official lookbook shots here.
